As a business owner, you’re bombarded with telemarketing calls offering you to buy this service, that service and anything that a telemarketer could try to sell you. But when the Better Business Bureau comes calling, is it something you should say yes to?
The BBB is a nonprofit organization that specializes in helping ordinary folks — aka your potential customers — find businesses that are trustworthy in their industry. There are so many scammers out there that it’s nice to have a trusted source out there not in it to sell ads or turn a huge profit.
But the fees to be an accredited member of the BBB aren’t always the cheapest. The fees are anywhere from $500 to a few grand a year, all depending upon how big of a company you operate.
So is the BBB worth it? Well, yes and no… let me explain.
The BBB is NOT worth it for lead generation. If you’re looking to generate leads for your business to grow & make more money, then the BBB might not be the best place to start.
Why? Where do you go to find the nearest Mexican restaurant to go eat at, find a pressure washer to clean your siding, find a plumber to fix that leaky sink or a pediatrician for your newborn baby? GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!
We all have Google on our phones, so anytime we need anything at all, we pull it out and start Googling. I don’t know of anyone who goes straight to the Better Business Bureau, do you?
For marketing purposes, the BBB is not worth the price is admission.
However, the BBB does provide one thing that not a lot of other places do: credibility.
After your Google search for a plumber, you select the one that appeals to you the most and on the website you see a BBB accredited logo, how does that make you feel? Usually pretty confident in that business, right? At least for me it usually does.
So here’s where the BBB can come in handy. When a potential customer is searching on Google, they click on your site and see the BBB logo, it could help sway their decision to give you a call. Why? Because the BBB is a sign of trustworthiness and credibility.
The BBB may not be the best tool to generate you more leads because not many, if any at all, go straight to the BBB’s website to find what they need, but instead, the BBB accreditation can be a huge conversion factor from someone visiting your site from a Google search.
